Suction sampler

I'd like to get a petrol driven suction sampler for work but I'm not sure what type of leaf blower to get. Does anyone know a contempory make/model that I can easily convert into a suction sampler and how I would go about doing this? Any help greatly appreciated!

Can't offer any useful advice but I've heard it's by far the best way of finding pseudoscorpions!

The one i use

This is the one i'm having fun with. Bought as a recoditioned on on the cheap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ryobi-Rbl-30MVA-Petrol-Mulching-Vac-30Cc-/281357250319?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA&hash=item418232ef0f

Though a nossle like this one would be more suitable. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ryobi-RBV26-Petrol-Leaf-Blower-26cc-Mulching-Shredding-Garden-Vacuum-RRP-139-99-/191076920136?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA&hash=item2c7d126b48

You could also look into buying something like this if you don't want to attract attention to yourself. My vac looks like something out of Halo.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handheld-Portable-Rechargeable-Cordless-Cyclonic-Vacuum-Cleaner-Hoover-65W-/350986919079

Ask Matt

Matt Prince bought one recently and put the details on facebook. I think Dave also went out and bought the same. So worth seeking their advice.

Thanks Mark.

I have a Stihl BG65, it's not

I have a Stihl BG65, it's not the lightest but it pulls in an enormous amount of stuff.  Whatever you get, make sure it's supplied with the suction tube as well as the blower tube.  In some models the suction tube is an optional extra and you might have trouble getting hold of it if it's not a stock item.

You can tape a net bag over the end of the suction tube, this is the traditional way of working.  However my improvement is to find a plastic flowerpot that's a firm fit in the end of the suction tube.  Cut the base out of this pot, and staple a 12" disc of netting to the base in its place, to form a net bag.  Seal and tidy the joint with waterproof tape.  Make a few of these.  Then just push one into the end of the suction tube, do your sampling, then you can pull the bag/pot out to tip the contents into a tray for inspection.  If you get a damaged bag, just switch for a spare in seconds.

Great stuff Clive! I actually

Great stuff Clive! I actually remmeber carrying your suction sampler now up to Heyshott Down.
