Year I started recording:
1974
Last updated on:

About me:
Keeping bird notes since 1974, always interested in plants (latterly my job, now retired) and butterflies and have gradually added the more obvious groups such as moths, Odonata over the past 30 years (oh dear, I shouldn't have worked it out). Trying bryophytes, Diptera, bugs and bees as the next ones, with mixed success. Mostly in Shropshire since 2019, with increasing Diptera attempts.
Age:
64
My bogey species:
Polecat, Small Brindled Beauty (put it down to laziness), Linum perenne
My most wanted:
Pine Grosbeak, Fea's/Deserta's Petrel (I don't care if you can't tick them any more), Ghost Orchid, Orca, Wild Cat.
My grippers:
Varied Thrush, Canada Warbler, Black-billed Cuckoo (2), Great Bustard (3), Little Whimbrel, Sagina nivalis, Saxifraga cernua, Arabis alpina, Serapias parviflora & vomeracea, Cyperus esculentus, C. alternifolius and C. ustulata, Scheuchzeria palustris, Oleander and Death's-head hawk-moths, Egyptian Bollworm, Purple Marbled, Crimson Speckled (2 in a week), Jersey Mocha, Camberwell Beauty, lots of Monarchs.
Latest addition:
Updated with 126 new species from 2023, many from Shropshire, often with Nigel Jones and local midweek outings with the wildlife group. Also trips to Isle of Wight with Andy Musgrove, Dorset and Cornwall. Year's highlights included New Forest Shieldbug, Large Conehead, my last Fumitory (Martin's Ramping-fumitory!), Baneberry and Yorkshire Sandwort at the nth attempt, Beautiful Marbled at Portland, Angle-striped Sallow in Shrewsbury, finally my first Brachyopa species and a rare twitch for Magnolia Warbler in Glamorgan. Quite a lot of flies to be determined and the bryophyte season is upon us.
