Cladonia norvegica

Cladonia norvegica. This is a very ordinary looking, squamulose species that has one feature that aids very usefully in identification. When attacked by mites, the damaged area leaves a bright red scar. There are scattered localities for it in UK in woodland and it is probably under recorded. This photograph was taken in the Coed Cymerau Reserve in Merionethshire, north Wales
