Caloplaca variabilis

Caloplaca variabilis. This is the first of three Caloplaca species that do not have the bright yellow or orange colouration. It has a rather dark thallus, with black fruits which are frequently pruinose. It is not uncommon, especially in churchyards where it is often seen on chest tombs. This photpograph was taken in Lingby Churchyard, Nottinghamshire.
