Caloplaca irrubescens.

Caloplaca irrubescens. This is an extreme rarity occurring on coastal basallt only found recently in North Wales and Scotland. Although not obvious in this photograph, It is the widely spaced, deep brown areoles of the thallus that distinguish it, and candidates on non calcareous coastal rock could have potential. This is a photograph of a specimen owned and collected by Tony Fletcher in Sutherland in 1983.
