Hello! It about time I posted something here. I started listing just over a year ago, after a mate of mine, Pete Mella got me into it.

So far, Ive made some progress, and have added around 120 new species over the course of 2016, but its been slower than I would have liked. I havnt been out as much as I should have, and some habitat types have been under-represented this year.

Part of the problem might have been not setting myself any particular goals. So ive decided that this year, my pan species listing goal will be to get to 1200 total species, (currently 922) which if I put the effort in, should be achievable.

This year has seen some really nice additions though. Ill Summarize some of the best ones below:

Mammals

A difficult group to add to, but I've added 3 additional species over 2016: Barbastelle and Whiskered Bat in the summer while I was doing a bat course, and a Red Squirrel last week. Red Squirrel was my number one bogey species, and it was great to finally see one!

Birds

I'm supposed to be a birder, but my list isn't very impressive at 260 total species. This year I've added some really nice birds though, including a Dusky Thrush, White-winged Black Tern, Western Purple Swamphen and Little Bittern. The Swamphen may not be accepted by the powers that be, so may have to be removed later. The Little Bittern is probably my favorite new bird, as it took a lot of patience to see.

Invertebrates

I've lumped invertebrates into one group for this summary, which probably shows it was an area I didn't get a lot of this year. Red necked Footman, Rhingia campestris, and rosy woodlouse were among the highlights. Must do better this year!

Vascular Plants

Most of the new plant additions were quite embarrassing, most obvious been Mugwort and Meadowsweet.

Not many to speak of, must try harder!
